Troubleshoot issues with linking Seona to your Wordpress site

Updated over a week ago

I've installed the WordPress plugin but clicking "Confirm" doesn't work

If you believe your WordPress plugin is properly installed, but clicking "Confirm" returns the error that Seona has not detected the plugin on your site, it is most likely due to the fact that another plugin you have installed is blocking Seona's REST API access.

Here are common security plugins that block our plugin access:

  1. Perfmatters

  2. Falcon

  3. Wordfence Security plugin

If you have one of these security plugins, you can either 1. disable that plugin or 2. add a rule within them to bypass our requests. See Security providers affecting Seona below for more info.

I'm having trouble installing the WordPress plugin

If you followed the instructions above correctly, your “Installed Plugins” screen on your WordPress site should have Seona added and match the following:

These are the two most common issues users encounter when installing the Seona plugin for WordPress:

  1. I get "Incompatible Archive" when uploading the plugin

  2. I get a 404 "Page Not Found" page when uploading the plugin

1. I get "Incompatible Archive" when uploading the plugin

Step 1: Uncompress the WordPress plugin

Uncompress the plugin by either double clicking on the file seona-wordpress-plugin.zip or right clicking and selecting "Uncompress."

Step 2: Recompress the WordPress folder

Recompress the plugin folder by right clicking on the folder seona-wordpress-plugin and selecting "Compress."

Step 3: Uploading the Plugin

  • Navigate to the 'plugins' folder within your WordPress installation directory

  • Upload the re-compressed WordPress plugin

2. I get a 404 "Page Not Found" page when uploading the plugin

Step 1: Preliminary Checks

Initially, attempt basic troubleshooting methods such as refreshing the page, clearing browser cache, or restarting the WordPress installation. If the issue persists, proceed to the next step.

Step 2: Utilizing WP Advanced File Manager Plugin

If initial fixes do not resolve the issue, use the WP Advanced File Manager Plugin, which is available in the WordPress Plugin Directory. This plugin allows direct access to the website's File Manager or C-Panel.

Step 3: Accessing File Manager

Using the WP Advanced File Manager Plugin, navigate to the File Manager or C-Panel of your website.

Step 4: Preparing the Seona Plugin File

  • Locate the Seona Plugin file.

  • Uncompress the Seona Plugin file.

  • Move all the uncompressed items into a single folder named "Seona Plugin".

Step 5: Uploading the Plugin

  • Navigate to the 'plugins' folder within your WordPress installation directory.

  • Upload the entire "Seona Plugin" folder to this directory.

Step 6: Activating the Plugin

  • Return to the WordPress admin area.

  • Go to the 'Plugins' section.

  • Locate the Seona Plugin and activate it.

Step 7: Confirmation

Once the plugin is activated, verify if the "Page Not Found" error is resolved. You should now be able to use the Seona Plugin without any issues.
