What is a Backlink?
In SEO (Search Engine Optimization), a backlink is a link from one website to another. Backlinks are also known as "inbound links" or "incoming links" because they represent traffic coming to your site from another site.
Backlinks are important in SEO because search engines like Google consider them a vote of confidence from one site to another. The more high-quality backlinks a site has, the more likely it is to rank well in search engine results pages (SERPs). However, the quality of the backlinks matters more than the quantity. Links from authoritative, relevant websites carry more weight than links from low-quality or unrelated sites.
Backlinks can be categorized into two types:
Dofollow Backlinks: These links pass "link juice" (SEO value) from the referring site to the linked site, helping improve the linked site's search engine rankings.
Nofollow Backlinks: These links do not pass SEO value, but they can still drive traffic to your site and are useful in building a diverse backlink profile.
Building a strong backlink profile is a key part of an effective SEO strategy, as it signals to search engines that your content is valuable and trustworthy.
Your First Time Using Seona's Backlink Feature
The first time you use Seona's backlink features, you will be prompted to enter information about your business. This is necessary because Seona needs basic information to accurately represent your business when obtaining backlinks from other sites. Since this information will be shared across various sites to secure backlinks, it is important to ensure accuracy as it could drive potential customers to your business.
Backlink Overview Page
On your Backlink Overview page, you will find a graph showing the number of backlinks your site has acquired over time. The metric "referring domains" refers to the number of individual sites linking to your site. It's important to note that the number of referring domains and backlinks may differ, as a single site can provide multiple backlinks to your business.
Additionally, your Domain Authority is a metric that predicts how well your website is likely to rank in search engine results, based on factors like backlink quality and quantity. All three metrics—backlinks, referring domains, and domain authority—should increase over time with Seona.
Below the graph, you’ll see a list of all the backlinks your site currently has. This includes the URL where each backlink resides, the domain authority of the referring site, and whether the backlink is a dofollow or nofollow link.
Backlink Opportunities Page
On the Backlink Opportunities page, you will discover potential backlinks that Seona can secure for your site but that you don’t yet have. Seona will automatically submit your business to be listed on these sites (often called directories) to gain backlinks, and the opportunities page will be updated as these submissions are approved. Please note that approval for some directories may take several weeks.
What Are Directories?
Directories are websites that list businesses and provide backlinks. These submissions can significantly enhance your search engine ranking by giving you authoritative backlinks. Directories are one method of earning high-quality backlinks, and Seona will continue adding more ways to secure these valuable links in the future.
